NOVELL ADDS STARTER KIT TO NETWARE NFS FAMILY
Also Announces No-Cost Upgrade for Existing NetWare NFS Users
SAN JOSE, Calif. -- January 18, 1993 -- Novell, Inc. today
introduced the NetWare NFS Starter Kit, a five-user version of
the company's popular NetWare NFS connectivity software. In
addition, the company announced a no-cost upgrade for existing
NetWare NFS v1.2 customers to the latest version, NetWare NFS
v1.2B.
The NetWare NFS Starter Kit has all the functionality and
proven benefits of NetWare NFS, the first integration solution
between native UNIX and native NetWare operating system
environments. The Starter Kit provides transparent NFS (Network
File System) integration for five UNIX accounts into the NetWare
v3.11 server.
"We rely on NetWare NFS v1.2 to connect our UNIX-based
publishing systems into our NetWare-based business system," said
Kathleen Mayer, business manager of the The Davis (Calif.)
Enterprise daily newspaper. "We see the NetWare NFS Starter Kit
providing a cost-effective interoperability solution between
NetWare and UNIX."
"The NetWare NFS Starter Kit is ideal for those customers
that have a few UNIX workstations and need transparent
integration with their NetWare servers," said Bob Davis, vice
president and general manager of Novell's Connectivity
Products Division. "Customers have indicated to us that they
want to extend the benefits of NetWare NFS to smaller
workgroups and remote offices. With the Starter Kit, we
provide an economical, flexible solution optimized for these
environments."
The NetWare NFS Starter Kit consists of a set of NetWare
Loadable Modules (NLMs) for NetWare v3.11. In addition to the
NFS file services, it provides five UNIX accounts with a
bidirectional print gateway that allows NetWare users to print to
UNIX printers and UNIX users to print to NetWare printers. It
also has an FTP (file transfer protocol) gateway that allows FTP
client systems to access files on any NetWare server on the
network, including those that do not support TCP/IP services.
And finally, the Starter Kit contains an X Window Systems console
utility for remote NetWare server management from any workstation
that supports the X Window System.
Suggested retail price for NetWare NFS Starter Kit v1.2B is
US$1,495. Pricing applies in the United States and Canada only.
For pricing outside the United States and Canada, customers
should contact their local Novell authorized reseller. The
NetWare NFS Starter Kit will be available for worldwide
shipments February 1, 1993.
NetWare NFS v1.2B Upgrade

existing NetWare NFS v1.2 product. Current NetWare NFS v1.2
customers may obtain a no-cost upgrade to this new release.
The new version adds compatibility with Novell's recently
